Useful Facts
Here's some useful facts and information on our home and our area:
- Nothing against children, I was one once, but our home is not really suitable for children.
- Our home is a no smoking home.
- Manchester airport is the nearest airport, about 30 miles and 40 minutes drive away, assuming no traffic jams.
- Our nearest train station is Blackburn about 4 miles away.
- There is a bus service through our village. Runs about every hour, but I would strongly recommend having a car.
- If you need a taxi from or to Manchester airport then we always use Revidge & Wilpshire, they are very professional and efficient. Last time we used them in 2014 it was £48 one way.
- Yes, we do have an hair dryer, along with dishwasher, washer / dryer, American fridge / freezer, Smart TV, Apple TV, Wifi, coffee machine, smart kettle (used for making tea), microwave, electric oven and gas rings.
- No, we don't have air conditioning. It's something you don't need in England, in fact I don't know anyone in England who does, but we do have central heating.
- London is about 3 hours away by train or about a 240 miles / 4-5 hour drive. A car in central London is not an assset, more of liability.
- Details of tourism and activities in our area can be seen on the tourism page of this web site. There is also a comprhensive magazine rack full of brochures and maps in our home.
- There are 3 pubs / restaurants in our village. 2 of them are within 10 minutes walking distance.
- There are no shops in our village.
- Blackburn is our nearest town but Manchester, Preston or Bolton have a better range of shops or facilities.
- In my opinion the easiest way to our place is to fly into Manchester airport and then get a taxi or car hire to our home. There are regular shuttle flights from London Heathrow and Gatwick up to Manchester airport. Failing that I'd get a train to Preston station, change there and get a train to Blackburn and then get a taxi to our home.
- Blackburn Rovers are the local footabll team. One of the oldest clubs in the UK. My son would probably never speak to me again if I didn't say they were a good team and to be fair they usually are. Of course the World famous Manchester United are only about 30 miles away but very expensive seats.
