Dining Out

There's a wealth of fine dining, traditional restaurants, pubs and take aways in and around the area.

From fine 5 star haute cuisine, to good quality restaurants, or pubs serving traditional English fayre, such as Fish and Chips, along with traditional real ales, or the Asian cuisine with their hot spicy curries, to take aways and chinese chippies. An area with a wealth of different options is the Ribble valley, get lost in and around it and the Trough of Bowland and come across some great places to eat.

If you like beer then try some real ales, not your wishy washy golden dish water but a dark English Bitter. "A pint", none of your metric rubbish, but beware of drinking out of half pint glasses as you'll catch a cold. Some names to look out for are Marstons Pedigree, Thwaites and my all time, but rather rare favourite, Draught Bass - try the Sparrowhawk at Fence.

One of the great traditional dishes of the North West is Black Puddings,especially those from Bury. Not for the faint hearted, best not to ask or consider what's in them just get on and enjoy them - one of my favourites.

Sadly there are no Mexican Restaurants around, and I have to confess, even though it may be a major barrier to visiting, there are no Taco Bell!.

Here's just a few of our favourites:

The Dog Inn - great pub grub and fantastic real ale selection. Located in the village and actually owned by the villagers.
Grey Mare Inn - great pub grub and fantastic real ale selection. Just up the main road.
Pack Horse Inn - traditional Italian with Pizzas and just a walk across the field towards the main road.
Brittania Inn.
Strawberry Duck - ideal after a walk around the local reservoir. Fantastic range of real ales and guest beers.
Sparrowhawk - traditional fare with real ales and fantastic draught bass.
Northcoate Manor - 5 star Haute cusine for that special night out.
Nutters - 5 star cuisine with an unusual tell them what you don't like and they'll surprise you with a great 5 course meal.
Chinese chippy - great fish and chips take away. No web site but take M65 to junction 4; 2nd exit at roundabout; left at traffic lights and on the right hand side within about 200 yards.
Clog and Billy Cock restaurant.
Three Fishes restaurant.
Shajan Indian restaurants.
Number 39 - Donner kabbabs take away, great with lashings of chilly sauce.
