There's a wealth of fine dining, traditional restaurants, pubs and take aways in and around the area.

From fine 5 star haute cuisine, to good quality restaurants, or pubs serving traditional English fayre, such as Fish and Chips, along with traditional real ales, or the Asian cuisine with their hot spicy curries, to take aways and chinese chippies. An area with a wealth of different options is the Ribble valley, get lost in and around it and the Trough of Bowland and come across some great places to eat.

If you like beer then try some real ales, not your wishy washy golden dish water but a dark English Bitter. "A pint", none of your metric rubbish, but beware of drinking out of half pint glasses as you'll catch a cold. Some names to look out for are Marstons Pedigree, Thwaites and my all time, but rather rare favourite, Draught Bass - try the Sparrowhawk at Fence.

One of the great traditional dishes of the North West is Black Puddings,especially those from Bury. Not for the faint hearted, best not to ask or consider what's in them just get on and enjoy them - one of my favourites.

Sadly there are no Mexican Restaurants around, and I have to confess, even though it may be a major barrier to visiting, there are no Taco Bell!.
