Blackburn - Environ
Here are some of the places around the Blackburn area:
- Belthorn is situated in the West Pennine Moors, which has some stunning landscapes, reservoirs and walks. In its hey day Belthorn had some 7 pubs, 3 churches, a school and a Co-Op store. It was famous for weaving and a lot of the original weavers cottages still exist and fetch a good price. The other endemic industry was sheep rustling. Nowadays we have one pub in the village, no post office, but we did have a drum shop - don't ask.
- Nearby is the Ribble Valley has some good walks and is well worth exploring its small villages and pubs.
- The Trough of Bowland also has much to offer and is a favourite of her majesty the Queen.
- Whalley is a quaint market town nearby, with a famous abbey.
- For witchcraft and history a visit to Pendle Hill and Sabden is a must. Pendle Hill is the large hill seen from our lounge and is famous for its witches. There are some stunning walks and occaisonly you get the chance to ski down the big end, but the walk upcarrying your gear is horrendous. Certainly not a threat to Park City!
- Clitheroe is another popular market town nearby, complete with castle. Great wine shop, like something out of the 1920's, excellant sausage shop and home of Booths, high class supermarket with a stunning range of cheeses and local luxury foods - worth a visit.
- Ribchester - old Roman town, Roman museum, river walks and pubs.
- Anglezarke and Rivington.
- Houghton Tower - discover why its called sirloin, also has frequent events, farmers markets and plays.
- Samlesbury Hall.
- Ramsbottom.
- Rawtenstall.
- Preston offers shopping, theatre and the rare Preston Guild.
- Bolton has the Octagon theatre, great little theatre in the round, and a vibrant indoor market.
